House 42B - Eden Prairie
Two words, “trust” and “accountability”, describe the responsibility that a representative accepts when they are elected. We elect a representative trusting that person will serve the interests of the district and the citizens of Minnesota. As a member of a large body, you must work with your colleagues to shape the laws and to appropriate the expenditure for the benefit of Minnesota citizens.
Every two years we choose a person from District 42B to represent us in the Minnesota State Legislature. When our representative fails, the citizens of District 42B must hold that elected official accountable through an election.
I believe Rep. Loon’s flip-flop on the General Assistance Medical Care vote was the most egregious example of this betrayal of trust. After the Governor’s illegal unallotment of GAMC, she voted for a compromise bill that restored part of the funding. The Governor, running for national political office, vetoed the bill. Rep. Loon upheld the Governor’s veto because of party loyalty.
Another compromise bill was passed. This bill was dramatically under funded. The reaction of the hospitals tells the story. Without Rep. Loon’s support, this was the best the DFL majority could do to solve this problem. How will Rep. Loon defend this decision?
Cutting the Minnesota State Income Tax has created years of deficits. The Governor’s answer has been to pass these deficits to the counties, cities, and school districts of Minnesota.
This year, the Eden Prairie teachers stepped forward at contract negotiations and saved many teaching positions. Other bargaining groups for the employees of Eden Prairie Schools agreed on a two-year “wage hold”.
After a town hall meeting, I pointed out this information to Rep. Loon. She responded to me with an explanation about the large salary increases the teachers are getting. How does Rep. Loon support the Eden Prairie Schools and its loyal employees?
It is time for District 42B to have a representative whose values will minister to those in need through government assistance.
It is time for District 42B to have a representative who believes fiscal responsibility is paying your bills.
I am the candidate to replace Rep. Loon after her failure to live up to the trust the citizens of District 42B gave her when they elected her to the Minnesota House of Representatives.
